In 2001 I had a serious brain injury and I was advised by my doctor to move to part-time work. I started attending Space2Create once a week. I enjoyed the company of others and learning from everyone around me. Space2Create stops me feeling as isolated. I have recently started taking part in the Space2Create Sketchbook Circle which has given me something to do in the evening. After my brain injury I kept being told I couldn't do things but art is something I can continue to do and get better at.
I first heard about Space2Create when I met someone I hadn't seen for a few years and she said to come along on a Wednesday. This opportunity came at a time when I was in a horrible place, our grandchildren were denied any contact with us by their mother. This was particularly upsetting as both children had spent a lot of time with us, being picked up from school and sleeping over. It was worrying not knowing how the children would cope. Space2Create gave me something to look forward to and the people who go there are all friendly and fun to be with. A bonus having a drink made and the lunchtime offerings. I really enjoy my Wednesday mornings, rediscovering my creative side.
Space2Create has been a supportive and inclusive environment for me for the last two years. After being made redundant, whilst coping with long-term chronic conditions, attending Space2Create has provided me with a structure to my week. I have been able to explore all aspects of arts and crafts, gaining new skills, fostering new relationships whilst distracting me from chronic pain in a community setting.
